As 2024 approaches, eligible Alaskans are eagerly awaiting their Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) payments, which serve as a financial lifeline during the holiday season. This annual payout, generated from Alaskaโ€™s oil and natural resource revenues, provides significant relief to residents amid economic challenges like inflation and rising costs of living.

Hereโ€™s everything you need to know about the Alaska PFD, eligibility requirements, payout dates, and how to claim your payment.

Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend

The Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend was established in 1976 to manage and distribute a portion of the stateโ€™s oil and natural resource earnings. The programโ€™s goal is to:

  • Share Alaskaโ€™s wealth directly with its residents.
  • Incentivize spending and investment within the state.

In 2023, eligible Alaskans received a PFD payment of $1,312. For 2024, the payout will increase to $1,702, benefiting approximately 600,000 residents.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend, applicants must meet specific residency and legal requirements:

1. Residency Requirements

  • You must be a registered resident of Alaska for at least 12 consecutive months.
  • You cannot have applied for residency in another state or country.
  • You must have spent at least 72 continuous hours within Alaska in the past 24 months.

2. Criminal History

  • You must not have been incarcerated for a serious crime within the past year.
  • For those with a previous conviction of a serious crime or two misdemeanors since January 1, 1997, misdemeanor jail time within the last year also disqualifies you.

3. Intent to Remain in Alaska

Applicants must not have plans to leave Alaska or establish residency elsewhere.

Key PFD Payment Dates

Eligible residents can still receive their 2024 PFD payments before Christmas if their status is marked as โ€œEligible-Unpaidโ€ by the following dates:

December 2024 PaymentDecember 11, 2024December 19, 2024
January 2025 PaymentJanuary 8, 2025January 16, 2025

How to Apply

Applications for the Alaska PFD are accepted annually between January 1 and March 31. You can apply through the following methods:

  1. Online Submission
    • Visit the official Alaska PFD website and complete the application form.
  2. By Mail
    • Download the application form from the PFD website or collect it from your local office.
    • Submit completed forms to the designated mailing address.

Note: Applications must be submitted for each family member, including children. Parents or legal guardians must file applications on behalf of minors.

Benefits of the Alaska PFD

The Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend plays a crucial role in supporting households by:

  • Providing financial relief during the holiday season and into the new year.
  • Encouraging local spending on essential goods and services.
  • Assisting families in saving for education, healthcare, or emergency expenses.

Payout Increase for 2024

The increase from $1,312 to $1,702 in 2024 reflects the strong performance of Alaskaโ€™s natural resource revenues. This boost helps families manage rising costs associated with inflation and the general cost of living.

The Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) continues to be a cornerstone of financial support for Alaskan residents. For those eligible, receiving a PFD payment before Christmas or in early 2025 can provide much-needed relief during the holiday season.

Ensure that your eligibility status is up-to-date and that your application is completed properly to secure your payout. Remember, applications for the next PFD open on January 1, 2024, and close on March 31, 2024.

By staying informed and proactive, you can take full advantage of Alaskaโ€™s PFD program to support your household and invest in your future.

  3. When is it gonna be illinois turn for some help? I have 4 kids and a sick husband and I can’t afford bills let alone christmas. I try all these different resources and I’m always told there’s no funds even thou u always here or people giving money to charity well it sure isnt going to the people who really need it or u have to jump threw 15 hoops to get it that I can’t do in my situation. There is enough money in the world so no one would have to be poor but rich people just want to keep taking from us. Just like when they made minimum wage go up then all these greedy companies had all there prices go up so they wouldn’t have to take a pay cut so the rest of us can have a chance to live and pay bills and not end up on the street. So we ended up right back where we were. It’s an endless cycle.
